The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with a great patriotic fervor in our school. The theme was ‘WITH FREEDOM COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY’. The day began with the hoisting of our national flag by the Chief guest our Hindi teacher Mr. K.P. Singh who completes 25 years of service this year. The guest of honour was Lt. Cdr Kailas Prasad from the Indian Navy . The flag hoisting was followed by a program in the hall. There was a wide away of items ranging from a dance cum skit acknowledging our soldiers, sportsmen and farmers to actual surveys done by students to know what the man on the street thinks about Independence. The gap between rural and urban India was also well brought out. A small skit depicting the state of Mother India made a great impact. There was installation of the Desh Apnayen Club. Winners at different interschool events were felicitated too. We had great word of wisdom from our dignitaries Lt. Cdr Prasad also showed us a small video on the Indian Navy which was highly motivating for the students. Fr. Jude had the last word when he summarized the whole program in his own unique style stressing on the theme. In fact he had a banner put up in the school premises highlighting the theme and the oath to make India clean, polite, corruption free and provide basic amenities to all. There was a Martial Arts Display in the school compound. The programme ended with the singing of Vande Mataram. This programme was unique because there was live streaming of the entire programme in the classes 5th to 7th a first time in St. Mary’s.
