“St. Mary’s High School S.S.C celebrated the 77th Independence Day with great pride, based on the theme ‘Nation First, Always First’. We began the celebration on August 8th, 2023, with daily intercom assemblies where we sang the national anthem and recited pledges in Hindi and Marathi, which was sent by Education department. We also sang different patriotic songs such as ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’, ‘Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai’, ‘Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara’, etc., every day to instill patriotic values among the students.
On August 13th, 2023, a Sunday, we gathered at the school for the flag hoisting ceremony. This was followed by the Primary Independence Day celebration on August 14th, 2023, where the chief guest, Police Officer Mrs. Kavita Sanap, hoisted the flag.
Today, on August 15th, 2023, we commenced our program by welcoming our chief guest, Principal Rev. Fr. Felix D’Souza, Supervisor Mrs. Sheela Abraham, Primary Head Teacher Sr. Tresa Tinsy, and P.T.A Vice President for Primary and Secondary along with the school band. Our Principal, who was the chief guest for the day, hoisted the flag with traditional band commands, followed by the national anthem and the pledge in Hindi. We held a small prayer service, invoking God’s blessings for the peace, prosperity of our motherland, and the well-being of all citizens.
A speech in English, highlighting the journey of our country’s independence, was delivered by Master Umair Anasri. Following that, our students presented a meaningful musical skit performance based on the theme ‘Nation First, Always First’. The skit emphasized values such as the sacrifices of soldiers and their families, the dignity of labor, skill development for the nation’s progress, the role of farmers in our lives, the importance of nature and its conservation, and maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings. This was followed by a dance performance and a speech in Hindi, also centered around the theme.
Both our Principal and Supervisor addressed the students, teachers, and parents gathered, conveying a strong and meaningful message about the importance of true patriotism and gender equality. We presented our dignitaries with basil saplings, initiating a green movement, and creative canvas paintings prepared by the students. Certificates were awarded to the winners of the poster making competition organized for secondary students on August 10th, 2023.
Finally, everyone sang Vande Mataram with a deep sense of gratitude for our motherland and then proceeded home to spend the remainder of the day in a more meaningful way.”
