St. Mary’s High School celebrated Raksha Bandhan with a unique environmental initiative. The students of Standard 5 participated in an *Eco-Friendly Rakhi-Making Activity*, beautifully blending cultural traditions with a message of nature conservation.
Creative Crafting Session
The young students eagerly put their artistic skills to work and created beautiful, biodegradable rakhis using sustainable materials. Instead of plastic or synthetic elements, the children used:
* Handmade paper and colourful cotton threads
* Natural seeds, grains, and pulses
* Dried flowers and leaves
The activity highlighted the importance of celebrating festivals in an eco-friendly manner and without harming the environment.
### Tying Rakhis on Trees
The highlight of the event took place on the school campus. The students went outdoors and tied their handmade rakhis around the trunks of the trees. This symbolic gesture reminded everyone that *trees are our best friends and protectors*. The students learned that just as a brother protects his sister, trees protect us by providing life-giving oxygen and supporting the environment. By tying rakhis to the trees, the students of Standard 5 made a joyful promise to protect, nurture, and care for nature in return.
