The first meeting of the Culture Club was held in the school hall with 30 students attending out of 50 students who had registered. The students were quite anxious to know what would happen in this club since its the first year. They were informed of the nature of the club.
The class began with each one greeting the other in their own local greeting. So there were greetings of Assalamalaikum, Jai Bhim, Hello, Namaskar, Namaste. Students then formed a circle and played a game greeting one other student in that boy’s local greeting. So they all had to remember each one’s greeting. They enjoyed the activity.
Later they were shown a video with 5 common greetings like HELLO, THANK YOU, HOW ARE YOU, PLEASE and WELCOME. Students were asked to demonstrate these in their own cultures.
Students then ‘adopted a country‘ each starting with the first alphabet of their name and have decided to make a chart of the above 5 common greetings in the language spoken in their adopted country.
Later students watched a video on how to make a 3D pop-up card. And they have planned to make a collage of it in the next Culture Club Meet to be held on the 29th of July. The students gave the feedback that they really enjoyed the whole experience where they learnt a lot about different cultures of their own country and were excited to learn about their adopted country’s too.
