Eco-Club Activities (2013-14)

2014-07-24 18.15.41-3(1)

The teachers-in-charge of the EcoClub for the year 2013-14 were Mrs. Monalisa Andrandes (Std.V-VII) and Mrs. Fatema Saboowala (Std.VIII-X).  We carried out a lot of activites and also participated in various inter-School competitions, a report of which is given below:

  • The year began with the formation of the EcoClub about 200 boys from std.V-X registered for the EcoClub.
  • As with every year, this year too, we had ‘used pens’ collection drive.  EcoClub members of each class collected the used pens from their class.  We collected more than 2,000 used pens and take pride in the fact that we managed to save our environment in our own small way.
  • There was a ‘Book Mark’ making competition for std. V-VII; the theme was ‘Environment’. The best Book Marks were displayed on the notice board on the ground floor.
  • We participated in the “Green – Inter-School” competition held at Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Jayraj Rao (8-B) won the 1st Place in the elocution competition and Manang Solanki & Adwait Chawan (9B) won the 2nd Place in the quiz competition.
  • A CD on dengue-malaria was shown to the students of std.V-VII during their A.V. periods from 7th October 2013 to 11th October 2013.
  • An All India level Interschool competition ‘I-Green’ was held by Young Indians (YI).  We had to make a project on Mumbai: 2030 – An Insight.   There were more than 120 entries from 23 cities across India. Our school won the 5th place.  Our students of 9B : Manang Solanki, Adwait Chawan, Darshit Gudhka and Mohammed Husain Batatawala along with Mrs. Fatema Saboowala were invited to Chennai on the 24th and 25th October 2013 to attend the 11th edition of Green Building Congress 2013 at Chennai Trade Centre.  We got a Trophy and Certificates from the Governor of Tamil Nadu Mr. Konijeti Rosaiah.  This was indeed a moment of great honour for our school.
  • The Ministry of Environment and Forests gives grants to NGOs and all the Schools / Colleges, for carrying out activities regarding the environment. The selection process is tough. We are pleased to inform you that this year we got a grant of Rs.13,000/- from the Ministry via BAIF which is a regional resource agency from Maharashtra. This is the second time we have got this grant from the Ministry.  Last year we had got a grant of Rs.7,000/-.
  • We intend to use this money for carrying out activities related to awareness and action regarding exotic plant species.

As usual, it was a very eventful year for our EcoClub.

We thank the Principal, Staff and Students for their support and hope that we continue winning laurels for our school in the years to come.

Mrs. Fatema Saboowala

(Teacher-in-Charge of EcoClub)
